“Vanishing Girls” By Katia Lief

Katia Lief was born in France to American parents, grew up in Massachusetts and New York, and now lives in New York City with her family. She is the author of several novels; along with her new thriller series beginning with You Are Next. Vanishing Girls is her latest work.

A Brief Summary:

Former cop-turned private investigator Karin Schaeffer receives a text message meant for her detective husband Mac on a Sunday night: A plea for help from best friend Detective Billy Staples, who is in the grip of PTSD panic attack at a grisly crime scene nearby. Two females have been injured or killed. The first, an eleven-year-old girl, is the apparent victim of a hit-and-run. But it’s the second one that truly chills the blood- a young corpse bearing the unmistakable signature of a serial killer who has eluded the NYPD.

For years, girls have been vanishing off the streets of New York City and now it’s up to Karin to end the game…

Our Take:

This third book in Karin Schaeffer series is probably the best one so far: The author apparently has got used to the character and we see a more complex and mature portrayal of the female heroine in this novel. The storyline is also attractive, both for avid readers and also mass-market crime enthusiasts who are looking for James Patterson-like sort of read.

The book is also a quick read and we finished it in one sitting: We like the character of Karin and found this a quick yet rich and chilling story.

Our Rating: 4.0
